About this course

This CBT for Negative Thinking course in Maidstone forms part of a series of sessions exploring mental health. This course focuses particularly on negative and limiting thoughts - with a specific look at using CBT (Congnitive Behavioural Therapy) to alleviate or manage the symptoms. (CBT is a short-term therapy technique used by counsellors and therapists to teach individuals to change their unwanted behaviors by changing their thought patterns. You will be shown the basics of this theory which you can use for yourself or others.

By the end of the day students should be able to:
1) state the symptoms and effects of negative thinking
2) understand what CBT is
3) Identify when it is appropriate to use CBT to help manage negative and limiting thoughts
4) Use some of the basic CBT theories and practices to support others or yourself to help manage negative thinking

This course is educational rather than therapeutic. General broad ideas will be shared and discussed amongst the group. There could be some sharing of personal experiences but this course is not a replacement for personal therapy and this element will be carefully managed by the tutor.

How will I be taught?

The course will consist of a mixture of tutor input, group activities and discussion. The emphasis will be on participation and sharing of ideas. We will discuss options with you and do our best to provide the support you would like.
