About this course

This practical course will introduce you to the art of arranging flowers. It’s a great starting point if you’re an absolute beginner – or are looking to gain some flower arranging confidence, and develop your skills.

You’ll need to bring your own scissors or secateurs, flowers, greenery and mechanics (that’s flower foam, containers and so on - some of these will be available to buy from the tutor, by prior arrangement).

By the end of this course you’ll be able to:

- condition your flowers and greenery
- confidently soak your flower foam
- understand how to attach foam to a variety of containers
- demonstrate an awareness of flower arranging basic design

There is no homework requirement for the course, but you will need to provide your own flowers for class each week.

This course will be taught by Julie Davies flower workshops. Julie is an awarding winning florist and was BFA Florist Tutor of the year 2016.

There is no qualification for this course.

There is limited parking on site, but there is a public car park nearby and on-street parking.

How will I be taught?

There will be group and individual tuition, and group and individual feedback.

What do I need to bring with me?

Students should budget £10-15 per session for flowers. Buying flowers from the supermarket and supplementing these with greenery from your garden is a cost effective way of providing the necessary course materials.

Mechanics will be available to purchase week by week from the tutor – floral foam, dishes, and so on.

Flowers, greenery and mechanics – to be advised on a week by week basis
Notebook and pen (optional)
Camera (optional)

Week 1

We’ll be creating a table arrangement in a small dish

You’ll need a selection of your favourite flowers – enough to fill the top surface of your dish. Bring a mixed bunch from the supermarket and some greenery; carnations, roses, and chrysanthemums are great flowers to work with.

Cereal bowl or similar-sized dish – or a *plastic flower arranging dish
*Pot tape
*Flower foam

*These items will be available to buy in class at £2 per person
