How will I be taught?
The tutor will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstration, instructions, one-to-one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques.
What do I need to bring with me?
Students will need to provide their own materials, threads and stitching tools, but please do not buy anything especially for the course before it starts; wait for your tutor's advice in the first session. If you already have any equipment or materials that you think might be useful, please bring them along to the first session.
Students will need to bring small sewing equipment, such as sharp scissors for cutting fabric, pins, needles, a tape measure, chalk fabric pencil, sewing threads and a folder, paper and pens for notes and hand-outs. A digital camera would be useful, if you have one. You may need to provide further materials but please do not purchase anything until you have spoken to the tutor during the first session. The tutor will have a selection of items for sale, such as zips, cotton calico, piping cord, some threads, wadding and interfacings.
Please bring your sewing machine. There are sewing machines at the Centre, but it is best that you bring your own machine so that you get used to using it. Please bring all the accessories, foot controls and leads for the machine, and the instruction manual. You will need a darning foot for your machine.
What can I do next?
Further textiles and/or embroidery courses with KAE.
What do I need to join the course
All levels of skill are welcome, especially if you have never embroidered with a sewing machine before. The class is suitable for beginners and improvers, from those who are completely new to the subject, to those with some experience who want to increase their range of techniques and skills. It is a practical course so a good degree of manual dexterity is required.
