How will I be taught?
Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques.
What do I need to bring with me?
Your sewing machine, if you already have one, with its accessories and instructions. A notepad and pen and your own sewing kit including sharp scissors for cutting fabric, pins, needles, a tape measure, chalk fabric pencil, sewing threads to match fabrics; a tape measure. A digital camera is also useful.
For the first class please bring a piece of fabric to make a small bag – size approximately 50cms x 50cms (this could be cut from an old curtain or cotton garment) and a 20cm nylon zip (the tutor will have some supplies that you can purchase at the class). We advise that you complete the first couple of weeks before purchasing any clothing patterns or fabric.
What can I do next?
The beginners course.
What do I need to join the course
This course is suitable for absolute beginners at sewing. No prior knowledge or experience is required. There are sewing machines at the Centre for you to use, but it is best that you bring along your own machine, if you have one, to get used to using it. It is important to note that craft courses are practical, requiring a degree of manual dexterity.
