About this course

After the extinction of the Julio-Claudian imperial line and the chaos that followed, Rome enjoyed a period relative stability and wealth until the start of the 3rd century AD. This was the period of the Flavian dynasty and the 5 Good Emperors and saw the building of many of Rome’s most iconic Roman structures like the Colisseum and Trajan’s Column. Rome’s empire extended to the Antonine Wall and even beyond. Of course there was lots of drama as well, episodes of tyranny, natural and man-made disasters. Plenty to talk about

How will I be taught?

Balance of tutor input via slides which are available for students to download from the Moodle website with discussion with students and some in class activities.

About the Tutor: Richard Marsden

Richard has taught for Kent Adult Education for a number of years. He has an MA (Cantab) and a BA (Hons) in Modern and Medieval Languages. His mother is French and he has family connections in France and he also knows Latin. He is a keen amateur local historian with a particular interest in the traditional buildings of Kent.
