About this course

An advanced course in which students will use still-life, portraiture and landscape to study how selected artists use colour, composition and application. Students will then apply aspects of their findings to their own work. Projects will be set which allow students to interpret them in accordance with their own ideas and interests. Four and a half hour class with 30 minute lunch break.

How will I be taught?

Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will look at the work of contemporary and historical artists and craftspeople and you will keep a sketchbook/notebook and individual learning plan (ILP) to record goals, ideas, processes and progress. Students will need to understand the potential benefit from the programme of study, read and interpret ideas, communicate responses that are clear, logical and understandable and manage your own time. You will undertake critical evaluation and be motivated to develop creative skills and enhance personal skills.

You will receive one to one feedback.

What do I need to bring with me?

Students need to provide their own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. Please bring any materials and equipment you have that might be appropriate to the course. All students should bring a sketchbook of at least A4 size, preferably with a hard cover, ring bound and containing good quality cartridge paper and a selection of pencils-B to 4B to the first class.

What can I do next?

Your tutor will advise you on the appropriate follow-up course. Enrol early as places cannot be guaranteed.
