About this course

This course aims to open and enrich your personal connection to nature. The sessions will be about discovery, recording, discussion and image making. Your starting point might be an interest in seasonal occurrences, gatherings or sightings, or you might want to render something observed in pencil or paint. The course aims to respect and facilitate either approach and hopefully, to merge both into a record of nature that interests you on that day. Be prepared to appreciate a change in cloud formation or to split open a seed pod and examine the contents!

There is limited parking on site, but there is a public car park nearby and on-street parking.

How will I be taught?

Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques.

What do I need to bring with me?

Please do not buy anything especially for the course before it starts, but bring along anything you have already that you think will be useful. You will need a basic art kit; pencils and some sort of colour medium that you enjoy using. You can bring your own sketchbook or notebook, or paper, or buy paper from the tutor on the day. Various items from nature will be provided to draw and paint, but also feel free to bring natural specimens from your garden, the park or even from a crack in the pavement!

What can I do next?

A longer art course and/or next season's Nature Diary day.

What do I need to join the course

This mixed level course is suitable for beginners and those with some experience. It is important to note that art courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity for you to participate fully and get the most out of the course.
