About this course

This course is equally beneficial for the beginner as well as those with experience. It introduces a broad range of ceramic techniques including the main clay construction methods - pinching, coiling, slabbing and throwing on the wheel. There is a strong emphasis on personal skill development, including the designing and glazing of work. Students will work on individual projects with professional advice and guidance from the tutor.

Outcomes will be dependant on individual projects
1. Use throwing and hand-building skills both in functional and non-functional work.
2.Understand the decorative and finishing aspects of glazes.
3.Work with clay and glaze confidently and creatively.

How will I be taught?

Craft courses provide an opportunity for students to learn and develop skills, techniques and understand how to design for a chosen craft to a higher level. Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstration, instructions, one-to-one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques.
It is important to note that craft courses are practical, requiring a degree of manual dexterity. Students will need to participate fully to get the most out of the course.
Our courses are taught by qualified and experienced tutors most of whom are practising craftspeople.

What do I need to bring with me?

Apron or some form of protective clothing. Finished work is paid for by weight.

Longer Pottery or Sculpture courses.

Everyone is welcome to join this course, no experience or knowledge of this subject is needed.
