About this course

Course: First World War Poets (5hours)
In this short course, we will take time to consider the lives and works of some of the most well-known poet-soldiers of the First World War – such as Siegfried Sassoon; Wilfred Owen; Rupert Brooke and Isaac Rosenberg. Using their poetry as a starting point, we will learn about their experiences of war and discover how their attitudes towards warfare developed over the four years of conflict.

By the end of this course you should be able to:
• Place the poets of World War I in the wider context of British history
• Describe some aspects of the life in the trenches during World War I
• Discuss the value of this poetry as historical evidence

How will I be taught?

We shall use small group work, tutor input and discussion. There will be an illustrated talk, tutor input and lots of opportunities for group discussion and debate.
You will discuss your learning with the tutor and will be asked to record your progress on a Learning Plan.
