Family Learning Inspires Healthy Habits at Stanhope Community Fair
Family Learning was delighted to attend the Stanhope Community Fair in Ashford on Saturday 11 July 2026, where local families enjoyed a fun-filled day of activities, community connections and practical learning opportunities.
Hosted by Moat, the event brought together residents from across the community, and our Family Learning team were on hand to share healthy eating tips through an engaging, hands-on activity that proved a huge hit with children and adults alike.

Creating Healthy Snacks Together
Visitors were invited to get creative by making their own loaded rice cakes using a range of nutritious toppings. With options including fresh fruit and vegetables, reduced-fat cream cheese, hummus and other healthy ingredients, families were encouraged to experiment with different flavour combinations while learning more about balanced food choices.
The activity demonstrated how simple, affordable ingredients can be transformed into tasty snacks that are easy to recreate at home. It also highlighted the importance of making healthy eating enjoyable and accessible for the whole family.

Sharing Learning Opportunities
Throughout the day, we spoke with families about simple ways to prepare nutritious meals and snacks on a budget, as well as the wider benefits of learning together as a family.
The event also provided an excellent opportunity to introduce visitors to Kent Adult Education's Family Learning programmes, which help parents, carers and children learn new skills together in a supportive and welcoming environment. From cooking and healthy living to literacy, numeracy and creative activities, Family Learning courses are designed to build confidence, strengthen family relationships and support children's learning.

Strengthening Community Connections
The Stanhope Community Fair was a wonderful celebration of community spirit, bringing residents together in a relaxed and enjoyable setting. We were delighted to see so many families engaging enthusiastically with the activity and leaving with new ideas for healthy snacks and family learning at home.
We would like to thank Moat and the organisers of Stanhope Community Fair for inviting us to be part of such a successful event. We look forward to continuing our work with local communities across Kent, helping families develop healthy lifestyles, new skills and a lifelong love of learning.
