Why are English and Maths so important?

English and maths are essential skills that we use every day, often without thinking about it. From writing emails and understanding instructions to managing budgets, helping children with homework or calculating household expenses, strong literacy and numeracy skills can make life easier and less stressful.

Many employers and training providers also look for English and maths qualifications when recruiting staff or accepting applicants onto further study programmes. Improving these skills can help you:

  • Apply for more jobs with confidence
  • Meet entry requirements for further education or training
  • Progress in your current career
  • Feel more confident handling everyday tasks
  • Support your family's learning at home
