Building Foundations for a Career in the Construction Industry

Before joining the Skills Bootcamp, I was working part-time as a cleaner. While I was keen to find more stable and rewarding employment, I faced a number of barriers, including limited funds for travel and difficulties navigating online job application systems, with some websites making it hard to progress with applications.

I enrolled on the Skills Bootcamp because I wanted to learn a valuable trade that would improve my employment prospects and help me build a long-term career. The opportunity to gain practical skills and industry knowledge was a key motivator for joining the programme.

During the Bootcamp, I developed a range of bricklaying skills, including learning about different types of brickwork and techniques for repairing older buildings. The training provided me with valuable hands-on experience and a better understanding of the construction industry.

Throughout the course, I received excellent support from my tutor, who was always helpful, approachable and understanding whenever I had questions or needed assistance. The training was informative, engaging and provided a positive learning environment.

As part of the programme, I also received support with employability skills, including interview techniques, which helped me feel better prepared when applying for jobs.

Although my employment situation has not yet changed since completing the Bootcamp, the course has given me valuable new skills and knowledge. While I felt confident and motivated during the programme, I have found that securing employment remains challenging. Despite this, I believe the skills I gained will benefit me in the future and improve my chances of finding work in the construction sector.

I would recommend Skills Bootcamps to others because they provide an opportunity to learn valuable skills in a supportive environment while enjoying the experience. The programme offers practical training that can help people move closer to their career goals.
