Keeping our Learners Informed: Meningitis Update for Kent
Date Published: 18/03/2026
View all news storiesKent is currently experiencing a number of confirmed cases of meningitis, as reported by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). Close contacts of confirmed cases across Kent have been identified by UKHSA and directed to attend antibiotic clinics as a precaution.
We would like to reassure our learners that there have been no cases linked to Kent Adult Education, and during a UKHSA briefing yesterday we were advised that the overall risk to the wider community is very low, with no restrictions to education activities required. The Department for Education has also confirmed that learning should continue as normal.
As a general reminder, good hygiene is encouraged, and we ask learners to avoid sharing items such as vapes, food or drinks. Masks and sanitiser will be available for anyone who wishes to use them, although UKHSA does not consider them necessary.
