Who can join this course
Functional Skills English courses are funded by the Department for Education (DFE) and are FREE to eligible learners.
To be eligible to enrol and attend our courses you must have lawful permission to reside in the UK and be ordinarily resident in the UK at the course start date.
Dependant on your individual circumstances, you may be required to show evidence of your residency status before you can enrol and attend courses with us.
Acceptance on a KAE Skills Functional Skills English course does not constitute an immigration sponsorship and no Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) certificate will be issued.

Whether you already have a job or are looking, this course will help.
During the course you will learn effective language for communication in work places such as customer service, retail and in an office.
The course also includes practical learning on the following areas:
Admininstration i.e.
• lexicon related to invoices, quotes and budgets
• Taking minutes
• Writing short reports
Learning how to structure and create a digital presentation
Learning about negotiation
Job searching and career advice

Please note - your current level of English needs to be intermediate or higher - or a native speaker
This course is scheduled to have multiple sessions each week:
- Tuesday 10:00 - 12:00
- Thursday 10:00 - 12:00
This course is scheduled to not be running on the following dates:
- Tuesday, 26 May 2026
- Thursday, 28 May 2026
From 1st August 2024, the Department for Education (DfE) require that learners attending this course must identify their primary purpose for learning. This course is not available for learners whose main aim is to learn a hobby, or for leisure/pleasure.
Assessment is needed before joining this course. Please contact your local centre to complete an application.
As part of your funding agreement, you must attend at least 85% of your lessons, complete any required self study and all necessary qualifications you are enrolled on. You may be withdrawn if you do not attend regularly. If you have a pre arranged commitment booked during term time, please contact your tutor to catch up on any missed work.
