You must meet the entry requirements below:
- You must be ordinary resident in the UK at the start date of the course - Ordinary resident means you live in the UK and have chosen to live here for a settled purpose
- You must be a British citizen
- You must be aged 19 or over as at the 31st August 2025 for courses in the 2025/26 academic year
- You must agree to commit to and complete an Individual Learning Plan in agreement with your course tutor

Who can join this course
ESOL courses are funded by the Department for Education (DFE).
To be eligible to enrol and attend our courses you must have lawful permission to reside in the UK and be ordinarily resident in the UK at the course start date.
Dependant on your individual circumstances, you may be required to show evidence of your residency status before you can enrol and attend courses with us.
Acceptance on a KAE Skills ESOL course does not constitute an immigration sponsorship and no Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) certificate will be issued.
Before enrolling on an ESOL course you will need to complete an initial assessment. Please book an interview at your local centre.
We make every effort to keep our prices as low as possible and therefore regret that we cannot return payments to students who withdraw from a course. When you enrol, please understand that you are agreeing to pay the total price for the whole course, including all outstanding balances should you withdraw.
You may be eligible for a discount of your course fees; this will be dependent on your individual earnings and employment status. This will be discussed with you at your interview.

Is this course for me
The course is for students who already have some basic English skills and who may have completed Entry 2 ESOL. It is not for complete beginners. This level is suitable for intermediate level learners. Depending on the course, you will develop your ability to talk, read and write about events in the past, present and future.
Course aims
By the end of the course you should be able to:
* Be able to order words alphabetically
* Be able to identify the purpose of text
* Be able to gain meaning from text
* Be able to find information in text
* Be able to produce text for a given audience
* Be able to plan text for a given audience
* Be able to complete a form
Dictionary, ring binder for handouts and homework, paper and pen. If you are studying online ESOL, you will need a laptop or computer with good Internet connection, a working microphone and camera.

From 1st August 2024, the Department for Education (DfE) require that learners attending this course must identify their primary purpose for learning. This course is not available for learners whose main aim is to learn a hobby, or for leisure/pleasure.
Assessment is needed before joining this course. Please contact your local centre to complete an application.
To get the most out of your course we recommend you attend at least 85% of your sessions. If you do have a pre-arranged commitments booked during term time, please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcome.
