Who can join this course

Our Digital Skills courses are funded by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and are FREE to eligible learners.
To be eligible to enrol and attend our courses you must have lawful permission to reside in the UK and be ordinarily resident in the UK at the course start date.

Dependent on your individual circumstances, you may be required to show evidence of your residency status before you can enrol and attend courses with us.

Acceptance
on a KAE Skills Digital Skills course does not constitute an immigration sponsorship and no Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) certificate will be issued.

Before enrolling on an Digital Skills course you will need to create a learner account online, complete your residency eligibility check and then book an initial assessment to determine the best level.

Is this course for me

This course is ideal for individuals with basic IT skills who are looking to further develop their abilities and gain confidence using common computer applications.

Course aims

By the end of the course you should be able to:

* Create and format a simple Word document to meet basic presentation standards
* Access and navigate the internet effectively and safely
* Send and receive emails, including attaching and opening files
* Use basic Excel features to create and edit simple spreadsheets
* Develop a basic PowerPoint presentation with text and images
* Understand and apply principles of online safety and security, including protecting personal information and avoiding common risks

Please bring a pen, notebook and an A4 folder to each lesson.
If you are studying online, you will need secure internet connection, a laptop, tablet or PC. We do not recommend using a phone to attend online due to limited functionality.

You can progress to the next level in digital skills and at Entry 3 or Level 1, you can prepare for a Digital Functional Skills qualification. There is a wide range of other courses available with Kent Adult Education or other providers to support further study or employment. The National Careers Service may attend your course to advise about further study or employment opportunities.

From 1st August 2024, the Department for Education (DfE) require that learners attending this course must identify their primary purpose for learning. This course is not available for learners whose main aim is to learn a hobby, or for leisure/pleasure.

Assessment is needed before joining this course. Please contact your local centre to complete an application.

As part of your funding agreement, you must attend at least 85% of your lessons, complete any required self study and all necessary qualifications you are enrolled on. You may be withdrawn if you do not attend regularly. If you have a pre arranged commitment booked during term time, please contact your tutor to catch up on any missed work.

If there is anything you wish to tell us about a disability or medical condition that may affect your learning or using any of our facilities, please speak to a member of staff.

You will be given information about exams at assessment and by your tutor.
