At Kent Adult Education, we're proud to celebrate the achievements of learners who go above and beyond their personal development - and Sarah, a dedicated parent from Maidstone is a shining example. Sarah has been awarded a Learner Award for her outstanding commitment and growth through our Family Learning programme.
Learning to Support, Growing with Confidence
Sarah first joined our Supporting Your Child's Anxiety course, followed by Managing Children's Behaviour, both held at a local school in Maidstone. Her goal was simple yet powerful: to better understand and support her children's emotional and behavioural needs.
Through these courses, Sarah gained more than just knowledge - she found confidence in her parenting. She explored key topics such as parenting strategies, parenting styles and the the importance of positive communication. These tools helped her build stronger, more empathetic relationships with her children.
"Active listening has been a huge game changer for my family" Sarah shared. "I used to think I was listening, but I'd be slightly distracted. Now I carve out time to actively listen to the kids, and the benefits - especially with my eldest - have been huge".
A Safe Space to Learn and Share
Sarah credits the course environment and her tutor for creating a space where parents could open up and learn from one another.
"You have a natural way with people and I instantly felt I was in a safe space", she said. "Setting out the group rules helped us all to share our stories and experiences".
She added, "My overall evaluation of the course would be that it's fantastic and should be rolled out as wide as possible to help all parents and families. Ultimately, we all struggle at times, and to be aware that other people are experiencing the same things is huge".
Looking Ahead
Sarah's learning journey is far from over. She's now enrolled in an Autism Awareness course, continuing her commitment to understanding and supporting her children in the best way possible.
We're incredibly proud to honour Sarah with this Learner Award. Her story is a testament to the power of education and the courage it takes to grow - not just for yourself, but for your family.
