Is this course for me
This qualification will give you the knowledge, skills and competencies to work as a therapeutic counsellor in an agency context. On completion of this 2 year course, you will gain a Diploma in Integrative Counselling. For the first year and a half (up to and including the external exam), you will learn in depth about person-centred theory and practice devised by Carl Rogers which focuses on the client finding a resolution to their problems through a non- judgemental environment, so they can freely express any emotions and feelings.
You will strengthen your knowledge of ethical boundaries and the BACP ethical framework.
You will develop a profound understanding and experience of counselling supervision through working as a trainee counsellor in the community within a counselling placement.
A deeper exploration of developing your own self-awareness is an important part of the course. For example:
How do you relate to others?
What do you need to develop within yourself that will enable you to develop the capacity to therapeutically engage with clients?
What barriers do you hold that serve to reduce your ability to hold and contain a client's emotional pain?
Explore and challenge your own issues, fears and prejudices in order to work with client diversity.
In Year 2 you will focus on preparation for placement and then reflection on your practice there, sharing experiences with your peers.
Course aims
By the end of the course you should be able to:
* Demonstrate commitment to ethical practices, ensuring safety and professionalism in all counselling activities
* Develop and maintain therapeutic relationships that foster trust and support
* Recognise and respect the diverse backgrounds and experiences of clients, integrating this understanding into counselling practice
* Focus on the needs and perspectives of clients, ensuring their central role in the counselling process
