Who can join this course

Online AQA GCSE English courses are funded by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and are FREE to eligible learners.
GCSE English is FREE for those who don't already have GCSE English at grade C/4 or above.

To be eligible to enrol and attend our courses you must have lawful permission to reside in the UK and be ordinarily resident in the UK at the course start date.
Dependent on your individual circumstances, you may be required to show evidence of your residency status before you can enrol and attend courses with us.

on a KAE Skills GCSE English course does not constitute an immigration sponsorship and no Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) certificate will be issued.

Before enrolling on a GCSE English course you will need to complete an initial assessment. Please book an assessment at your local centre.

Is this course for me

If you are seeking employment or career advancement, wishing to help your children with school work or just looking for a new challenge, GCSE English could be for you. Teaching and learning are delivered through real time lessons, discussion, group work, and supported by online resources. Please note GCSE English will require 3-5 hours of self study each week.

Course aims

By the end of the course you should be able to:

* Read a wide range of texts, fluently and with good understanding
* Read critically, and use knowledge gained from wide reading to inform and improve their own writing
* Write effectively and coherently using Standard English appropriately
* Use grammar correctly, punctuate and spell accurately
* Acquire and apply a wide vocabulary, alongside a knowledge and understanding of grammatical terminology, and linguistic conventions for reading, writing and spoken language
* Listen to and understand spoken language, and use spoken Standard English effectively

Please bring a pen, notebook and an A4 folder to each lesson.
If you are studying online, you will need secure internet connection, a laptop, tablet or PC. We do not recommend using a phone to attend online due to limited functionality.

You can progress onto A level English or higher level study with Kent Adult Education or other learning providers.

Assessment is needed before joining this course. Please contact your local centre to complete an application.

As part of your funding agreement, you must attend at least 85% of your lessons, complete any required self study and all necessary qualifications you are enrolled on. You may be withdrawn if you do not attend regularly. If you have a pre arranged commitment booked during term time, please contact your tutor to catch up on any missed work.

You will be given information about exams at assessment and by your tutor.
