- You must be ordinary resident in the UK at the start date of the course - Ordinary resident means you live in the UK and have chosen to live here for a settled purpose
- You must be a British citizen
- You must be aged 19 or over as at the 31st August 2025 for courses in the 2025/26 academic year
- You must agree to commit to and complete an Individual Learning Plan in agreement with your course tutor

The ambition of the Kent Adult Education Creative curriculum is to engage the community through an energetic and diverse programme offer planned to meet the varied needs and interests of Kent’s communities, thereby ensuring high quality learning is delivered across the county in dedicated adult education centres, online and in neighbourhood settings.
Creative courses aim to build confidence through learning, allowing students to express themselves, think critically, and collaborate with their peers. By empowering our students to become confident, imaginative, and adaptable learners, we aim to develop students' curiosity, resilience, and adaptability, preparing them for future challenges, opportunities, and personal development.

Is this course for me
The course is for anyone who would like to step into the world of decorative flower displays and not sure where to start. It is nice to have cut flower displays around the home but where do you start to match flowers in a display and how to make sure they last as long as they should.
You will find out about sourcing materials and sundries and learn how to condition flowers for containers. In the following session you will learn how to create a vase arrangement and how to choose flowers. One session you will learn how to spiral a hand – tied bouquet step by step thinking about colour, texture and functional forms. In the last session you will find out about Floral foam alternatives, different methods to fill a container and create a table arrangement.
Course aims
By the end of the course you should be able to:
* Explain how to care for and condition the flowers and foliage used
* Identify at least two basic elements and principles of design in flower arranging
* Explain the health and safety considerations for all resources tools used
You will also be asked to think of Personal Aims to individualise your learning experience, as well as another benefits the course may have.
Please bring along a notebook and pencil for making notes and gardening gloves for handling the plants and flowers. Many of the flowers will be provided on the course but you can add other foilage each week if you have a garden or access to green spaces around you.
From 1st August 2024, the Department for Education (DfE) require that learners attending this course must identify their primary purpose for learning. This course is not available for learners whose main aim is to learn a hobby, or for leisure/pleasure.
To get the most out of your course we recommend you attend at least 85% of your sessions. If you do have a pre-arranged commitments booked during term time, please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcome.
