Who can join this course

Priority is given to our progressing Level 2 students.

Not all previous level 2 courses meet the entry requirements for Level 3. For online courses you will need to have taken part in synchronous learning (i.e. via zoom) with a minimum of 75 GLH (counselling skills) and 150 GLH (combined counselling skills and theory).
The Level 2 Free Courses in England course is not an equivalent Level 2 course for the purposes of direct entry to Level 3.

If you are NOT one of KAE's progressing Level 2 students, you will need to complete an online application form available at this link - https://forms.office.com/r/5GDWBwXyB3

Following submission of your application, you will also need to make arrangements to complete the online literacy assessment at this link - https://forms.office.com/r/9bT9NA3jv6

This checks your suitability for the course and helps identify any additional support required. If you are successful with your application and assessment, you will then need to book an interview slot by calling 03000 412222. The interview involves an informal and honest discussion with a Counselling tutor about your personal readiness, the content and level of the course which then ensures that you understand the personal, educational and financial commitments.

If you are an existing Counselling Skills Level 2 (CSK-L2) student with Kent Adult Education, your tutor will make a recommendation as to whether you are ready to progress to Level 3. If you are approved you will be given evidence of this and a password so you can enrol without going through the application process.

To be successful in all aspects of this course, it is recommended that you don't enrol if you have undergone a life-changing experience during the last 12 months as there is a high expectation for personal self-reflection on past life experiences.

N.B. You may be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to help fund this course. However, there will be a separate fee to pay direct to Adult Education which is not covered by the loan. Please ask for further information. This is a 'Free Courses for Jobs' course and there are no fees for those who meet both of the following criteria: those who do not already have a full Level 3 qualification and are aged 19-23 years.

Is this course for me

Welcome to the most current and comprehensive Level 3 counselling programme offered by the CPCAB. This course stands out from previous iterations by providing enhanced value to you both personally and professionally. You will gain a broader understanding of various allied professions, significantly boosting your employability across different sectors.

Our Level 3 Certificate in Applied Counselling Studies course:
• Enhances your theoretical understanding of counselling and continues to help you develop the skills and attitudes required to practice these diverse approaches.
• Encourages deep personal growth of self-awareness understanding.
• Enhances your ability to understand others and develops your ability to extend and appreciate the use of empathy in the therapeutic relationship.
• Enhances your ability to work effectively with equality and diversity, and work on your own prejudices.
• Further develops comprehensive research and reading and presentation skills within the group setting.

As in all counselling courses, a large element of the work is based on practical learning and observation in skills practice and involves a real commitment to personal development and self-awareness; often the course continues to provide students with a life-changing experience.

Course aims

By the end of the course you should be able to:

* Prepare to work within established ethical guidelines, ensuring safe and professional practice
* Gain a comprehensive understanding of the dynamics and importance of the counselling relationship
* Develop empathic understanding by exploring issues related to difference and diversity
* Implement a user-centred approach to counselling, prioritising the needs and perspectives of clients
* Apply and critically evaluate counselling theories to enhance self-awareness and inform your counselling practice
* Analyse and evaluate various theories of counselling and mental health to enhance client support
* Utilise feedback, reflection, and supervision to continuously improve your counselling skills and studies

What will I need for my course

You must have undertaken and proficiently passed a Level 2 counselling skills training course, e.g. our Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills or an equivalent qualification of at least 75 Guided Learning Hours from another institution that has included weekly face-to-face practice of counselling skills for the duration of the course.

You must have GCSE English Language Grade 4 ( C) or above. If English is not your first language, you will need to show that your English language skills are at a high enough level to succeed in your studies.

What can I do next

The course is grounded in the Person-centred Approach at Levels 3 and 4. Other modalities are introduced to broaden understanding, although only Person-centred skills are used in practice sessions. The course enhances counselling skills for use in allied professions, builds on Level 2 learning, and prepares students for the Level 4 Professional Diploma in Counselling.
