This course is for Learners who meet the funding criteria to learn Sign Language Basic Conversation.

Is this course for me

This course is designed as a basic introduction to British Sign Language for both those who have an interest in learning just a little or for those who wish to use this course as a stepping stone to further learning.

Course aims

By the end of the course you should be able to:

* Accurately fingerspell your own name and at least two familiar words, using fingerspelling to support simple signed communication
* Meet and greet another person using BSL and exchange at least three pieces of simple personal information
* Sign numbers 1–10 accurately and use them within a simple BSL exchange
* Use at least 10 simple BSL signs correctly within a short, structured conversation
* Take part in a basic signed conversation on one familiar topic, such as weather, food and drink, or family

From 1st August 2024, the Department for Education (DfE) require that learners attending this course must identify their primary purpose for learning. This course is not available for learners whose main aim is to learn a hobby, or for leisure/pleasure.
