Who can join this course

This beginner-friendly course is designed for anyone who wants to ensure their social media consumption is digitally healthy, informed, and responsible. It is especially useful for Facebook group and page administrators, who play a key role in moderating content and guiding online communities. Participants will learn how to identify fake news, understand the difference between misinformation and disinformation, and apply practical strategies to reduce the spread of false information online.

By the end of this course, learners will:
• Understand the impact of misinformation and disinformation on individuals and communities.
• Develop critical thinking skills to evaluate the credibility of online content.
• Learn how to verify sources and spot common signs of fake news.
• Gain tools and techniques to moderate and manage content responsibly in online groups and pages.
• Promote a culture of digital responsibility and healthy information sharing.

Is this course for me

Participants will be able to:
1. Define key terms: misinformation, disinformation, fake news, and digital health.
2. Identify common tactics used to spread false information on social media.
3. Evaluate the credibility of sources and fact-check content using reliable tools.

From 1st August 2024, the Department for Education (DfE) require that learners attending this course must identify their primary purpose for learning. This course is not available for learners whose main aim is to learn a hobby, or for leisure/pleasure.
