Who can join this course

This course is for absolute beginners who would like to try pottery for the first time in a carm relaxing enviroment of our Pottery Studio.

Is this course for me

This 3-week course introduces learners to the basics of pottery while promoting creativity, and well-being. Each session combines hands-on clay work with reflective practices.

This course is in the Pottery Studio so please bring an apron or wear old clothes. All learners will need to ensure they are wearing enclosed footware for health and safety.

The clay and glazing costs of the projects you will make are covered by the additional meterial cost

Course aims

By the end of the course you should be able to:

* Identify and describe the basic properties of clay and its behavior during hand-building
* Demonstrate how to create a pinch pot using appropriate hand-building techniques
* Construct a simple form using a press mould, understanding how to prepare and release clay from the mould
* Work withing the health and safety considerations for all resources and tools used

You will also be asked to think of Personal Aims to individualise your learning experience, as well as another benefits the course may have.

Additional Information

From 1st August 2024, the Department for Education (DfE) require that learners attending this course must identify their primary purpose for learning. This course is not available for learners whose main aim is to learn a hobby, or for leisure/pleasure.

To get the most out of your course we recommend you attend at least 85% of your sessions. If you do have a pre-arranged commitments booked during term time, please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcome.
