Who can join this course

Response courses are for those aged 19 and above, who are unemployed or low-waged, live in Kent and looking to progress into employment, volunteering, start a learning journey or improve their wellbeing.
All courses are funded by the Department for Education (DFE) Adult Skills Fund and are FREE to eligible learners.

To be eligible you must be able to answer ’yes’ to BOTH statements below:

1. Have you been living in the UK or an EEA country continuously for at least 3 years prior to the learning start date, and
2. Are you a UK national, Irish national or do you have pre-settled or settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme?

Please speak with us if you cannot answer ‘yes’ to both statements as you may be able to gain a place if you can provide suitable residency evidence. If you do not qualify for a free place, you can still attend but the course is chargeable.

Is this course for me

The objective of the qualification is to benefit learners by preparing them to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations when looking after infants/children.
It is suitable for those who have a professional involvement with children in schools or childcare settings or looking to start along a career pathway towards working with children.

Course aims

By the end of the course you should be able to:

* Know how to perform CPR on an infant and safely use an AED
* Know how to perform CPR on a young child and safely use an AED
* Be able to help a child who is choking
* Demonstate that you can place a child into the Recovery Position
* Identify the different types of bleeding
* Use a bandage to dress a wound
* Explain how you would treat a patient suffering from shock

Additional Information

From 1st August 2024, the Department for Education (DfE) require that learners attending this course must identify their primary purpose for learning. This course is not available for learners whose main aim is to learn a hobby, or for leisure/pleasure.
