This day of calligraphy based in Broadstairs will be an introduction to the writing beautiful illuminated letters. You will be introduced to fine writing by learning the basics of many different scripts, making lettering come alive using a variety of pens, nib sizes, and covers.

By the end of the day, you should be able to: hold and use a calligraphy pen correctly, mark up your paper for writing on, write in a word using illuminated lettering, work to relevant Health and Safety guidelines. Please not other students may be of mixed ability. Please be aware there will be other students with different levels of experience.


Who is the tutor?

About the Tutor: Naoko Munro

Naoko is a native Japanese speaker. She has been teaching Japanese in a Japanese school for three years in England and helping teach Japanese to adults and young people for over five years. She has experience as a private tutor teaching other subjects in Japan. She has also been working as a Japanese- English translator

She creates an environment where the students are encouraged to speak Japanese and she believes that learning Japanese should be fun and enjoyable.

How will I be taught?

Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques.

What do I need to bring with me?

If you have any of these items and want to bring them along please feel free, however if you dont, we will provide them. E.g. a need a calligraphy type pen, ink (if it's a dipping pen), broad-nibbed felt pens, an HB pencil, a t-square or 12' ruler, eraser and a pad of inexpensive A3 paper.. There is no cafe but there are local shops within walking distance for refreshments.

During your course, your tutor will offer guidance in your personal progression route.
Courses are designed to progress students to higher levels of the Art. In addition, our courses support application to "Access to Degree Foundation courses" leading to Higher Education opportunities.
