Learn how to create a design using the beautiful art of shibori dyeing. Shibori is a Japanese method of tying and dyeing fabric to create both pattern and texture, taking a flat piece of fabric and manipulating it into sculptural forms. On this course you will investigate a variety of shibori techniques such as stitching, binding, knotting and clamping to create three-dimensional textures on polyester fabrics and beautiful resist-dyed patterns with traditional indigo coloured dyes on cotton fabric and garments.
By the end of the course, students will:
- have a good understanding of a variety of dyeing, knotting and tying techniques
- know the best fabrics and fibres to use with the different techniques
- experiment with dye and thread to produce their own artwork
- be familiar with the work of contemporary and traditional craftspeople
There is no qualification for this course.
There is limited parking on site, but there is a public car park nearby and on-street parking.
