A course that incorporates lectures supported with images video clips exploring the life, art , techniques and legacy of 10 iconic Female artists( painters, sculptors, filmmakers and photographers). After the hours lecture, students will take part in a drawing/ painting/ collage workshop inspired by the work of each artist.
Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Angela Wooi
Angela Wooi is an artist and illustrator. She graduated from Wimbledon School of Art and UCA with a BA Hons in Fine Art.
An award winning artist, she works in mixed media, using drawing painting and collage and also designs costumes . Her background in theatre design and creative direction gives her a unique edge within her creativity. She is a founder member of the arts cooperative Making Art Work based in Maidstone. Her teaching style is structured but fun, challenging and exciting .
How will I be taught?
The tutor will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will look at the work of contemporary and historical artists and you will keep a sketchbook/notebook and individual learning plan (ILP) to record your goals, ideas, processes and progress.
One to one guidance, group critiques, self-assessment against individualised learning outcomes stated on the ILP.
This course will be delivered online. Students will join the class from home and be able to exchange and in interact with other learners as they would in the classroom (speaking, listening, writing in the chat box). Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques.
You can access the class from your computer equipped with a camera and a microphone, from a laptop (where the camera and microphone should be built-in), a tablet or a smartphone. Before each lesson, the tutor may send you by email essential lesson information/handouts for you to consult in advance, and before the class starts, the tutor will have sent you by email an invitation to join, which will be a simple weblink to click. The system is free, secure and easy to use. Should you have questions about the required equipment, please do not hesitate to contact us by telephone or by email. What do I need to have with me?
On the first day you will need an A4 sketchbook of cartridge paper and a set of artist’s pencils that includes some hard pencils ( H) and some soft (B). If you are unsure just bring an ordinary HB with you on the first day. You will then be given a full list if materials required on the first day of the course.
