This Belly Dance course for Beginners and Improvers in Maidstone will cover correct posture for Egyptian belly dance, core moves, travelling steps, work with a prop ( veil / skirt / or cane ) and we will put some step combinations or a choreography together.
Please note that there will be no lesson on the 19th June.
Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Angela Wooi
Angela Wooi is an artist and illustrator. She graduated from Wimbledon School of Art and UCA with a BA Hons in Fine Art.
An award winning artist, she works in mixed media, using drawing painting and collage and also designs costumes . Her background in theatre design and creative direction gives her a unique edge within her creativity. She is a founder member of the arts cooperative Making Art Work based in Maidstone. Her teaching style is structured but fun, challenging and exciting .
How will I be taught?
The session starts with a safe and effective warm up. Students will then learn moves through tutor demonstration, and practice as a group or with a partner to music. Notes are provided and the lesson will finish with a gentle cool down.
You will be asked to complete a confidential health questionnaire before the course starts.
What do I need to bring with me?
You will need supportive, comfortable clothing that allows ease of movement. Formal trousers, skirts or dress are not suitable for this activity. Circle skirts can be worn. A scarf to tie round your hips is advantageous but not essential. You should wear shoes with a soft sole (ballet pumps are best or dance trainers), alternatively you could dance barefoot. Sandals, boots or any footwear with a high heel are not recommended. You may be advised not to take part if you are not dressed appropriately.
Please bring water.

What do I need to join the course
This is a mixed ability class that is suitable for beginners and people with some experience. you will need basic mobility, Middle Eastern belly dance is a gentle form of exercise.
Please take a moment to consider the list below. If you have suffered from any of the conditions listed, please check with a medical practitioner whether it is suitable for you to undertake an exercise programme and bring a referral letter from your doctor to your tutor. If you have not checked, or if it is not suitable, please do not participate in this class.
