‘Simply’ learn the basic techniques of how to make an easy wired sugar Tiger Lily.
Tiger lilies come in a wide array of colours, making them ideal for celebration cakes as a cake top decoration. Made from flowerpaste, you will learn how to colour paste, cut petals and wire them. Finally dusting to give a realist appearance
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
• Explain the difference between the use of flowerpaste and sugarpaste (or rollout fondant)
• Demonstrate how to cut petals and individually wire
• Show how to apply coloured dust to enhance the appearance
• List 3 Health and Safety points relating to make wired flowers
A pack of flowerpaste will be available to buy from the tutor at a cost of £6.50 or you can buy your own.
Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Lyn Pankhurst
Your tutor is Lyn Pankhurst, who has been teaching Sugarcraft since 2000. She is qualified to City & Guilds Level 3 Advanced to include: Royal Icing, Sugarpaste, Chocolate work and Boiled Sugar. Lyn completed her Teaching Certificate (PCET) in 2006 followed by her Foundation Degree in Education and Training in 2010. She has achieved Awards for Outstanding Teaching Learning and Assessment for courses taught at Kent Adult Education.
Lyn has achieved many National and International awards for her Sugarcraft in various exhibitions and competitions including Hotel, Restaurant & Catering Show (Formerly Hotelympia) - Salon Culinaire International 2020 where she received a Silver award for her Floral Wreath.
How will I be taught?
You will be taught as a small group using a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, instruction, one to one guidance, and group discussions.
What do I need to bring with me?
For this course, please bring with you:-
- A note book and pen
- Tiger Lily / Stargazer Lily cutters (bring if you already have them, tutor has some to borrow during class)
- Small cranked handled pallet knife
- Small non stick rolling pin
- Ball tool for thinning petal edges (If you have a set of Sugarcraft modelling tools, it is included) - tutor has some you can borrow for the session
- A pack of flowerpaste will be available to buy from the tutor at a cost of £6.50 or you can buy your own
- Paintbrush - small
- Small lidded pot for glue
- Box to take flower home
