This Level 3 course is the second step on the professional route to qualify as a counsellor. This course will be taught online. There will be at least 4 full-day Saturday sessions throughout the course. These will take the form of online sessions or structured work through a workbook. Dates to be confirmed.

You will further develop your counselling skills and you will study more of the main theoretical approaches to therapeutic counselling. You will learn how to take the next step in your training to become a counsellor and discover more around counselling theory and agency work.

As in all counselling courses, a large element of the work is based on practical learning and observation in skills practice. The course involves a commitment to personal development and self-awareness; often the course continues to provide students with a life-changing experience.

Our Level 3 Counselling Studies Certificate CPCAB course:
• Enhances your theoretical understanding of counselling and continues to help you develop the skills and attitudes required to practise these diverse approaches.
• Encourages deep personal growth of self-awareness understanding.
• Enhances your ability to understand others and develops your ability to extend and appreciate the use of empathy in the therapeutic relationship.

You can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to help fund this course. However, there will be a separate fee to pay to Kent Adult Education.

Please Note: To be eligible for this course, you will need to have successfully completed the Counselling Skills Certificate CPCAB Level 2, or an equivalent level 2 course where you have completed 90+ classroom hours with counselling skills practice with your peers included. Students who have completed Level 2 Award qualifications of approximately 30 classroom hours would need to begin their studies with a Counselling Skills Certificate CPCAB Level 2.

How will I be taught?

This Level 3 course will involve full learner participation and deep self-reflection. There will be personal and sensitive discussions in small and large groups, group activities and role plays in pairs or triads followed by observer feedback.

You will keep a weekly personal learning journal which provides evidence of your learning. You will be take part in small group activities, be willing to share personal stories and complete a portfolio of evidence.

Your written and practical skills will be demonstrated, observed and formatively assessed during the course, by a variety of tutor, peer and self-evaluation. You will be given assignments and/ or a research project/ presentation. You will have tutorials to discuss your learning and developmental needs. There is a short external assessment set by CPCAB taken towards the end of the course.

Please Note: The course will include up to 5 mandatory online Saturday sessions and other sessions, spread over the length of the course. Dates to be confirmed once the course begins.

Please Note: A minimum of 85% attendance is required on this course as well as the timely completion of assignments. We would not expect students to be absent for more than 5 classes during the course or for more than two consecutive classes. A high level of commitment and up to 4-5 hours per week of self-directed learning outside of classes is essential.

What do I need to have with me?

A notebook and pen and/or a laptop.

For online courses, blended courses or classes which need to be moved online due to bad weather etc. you will need a computer/ laptop with a camera and access to Zoom.

You will be given a student handbook (text book) at the beginning of the course, if you did not receive one on the Level 2 Skills course. The cost of the handbook is covered by the course fee. There is no need to buy any resources before the start of the course.

What can I do next?

Upon completion of the Certificate in Applied Counselling Studies CPCAB Level 3 (CAST-L3) you may progress to the 2-Year Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling CPCAB Level 4 BACP APQ. The diploma course qualifies you to be a Counsellor in an agency or to begin the process to set-up a private practice. Details of the Level 4 course can be found on www.cpcab.co.uk.

We offer the diploma as a 2-year part-time course. Please ask your tutor for more details during the course and please see our website at www.kentadulteducation.co.uk for further details.

During your course your tutor will offer information in relation to your personal progression route. Courses are designed to progress you to further study or into employment. In addition, some of our courses support access to Further and Higher Education opportunities. The KAE website has information about these courses and for developing your own business. Please speak with your tutor if you have an interest in self-employment or an interest in developing a career. We can also help you access the National Careers Service (NCS).

What do I need to join the course

If you are NOT one of KAE's progressing CPCAB Level 2 Certificate students, you will need to complete an online application form available at this link - https://forms.office.com/r/5GDWBwXyB3

Following the submission of your application, you will also need to complete the online literacy assessment using the link - https://forms.office.com/r/9bT9NA3jv6

These forms check your suitability for the course and help identify any additional support you may require. If you are successful with your application and assessment you will then need to book an interview slot by calling 03000 412222. The interview will typically take place via the telephone, but it may be face-to-face or on Zoom.

The interview involves an informal and honest discussion with a Counselling Tutor/ Curriculum Leader about your personal readiness and the content and level of the course. This ensures that you understand the personal, educational and financial commitments.

Places are often taken up quickly so early application is highly recommended

If you are an existing Counselling Skills Certficate Level 2 (CSK-L2) student with Kent Adult Education, your tutor will make a recommendation as to whether you are ready to progress to Level 3 at the end of your Level 2 course. If you are approved you will be given a password so you can enrol without going through the application process.

It is recommended that you don't enrol on this course if you have undergone a life-changing experience during the last 12 months, for example, a bereavement, as there is a high expectation for personal self-reflection on previous life experiences.

Please Note: To be eligible for this course, you will need to have successfully completed the Counselling Skills Certificate CPCAB Level 2, or an equivalent level 2 course where you have completed 90+ classroom hours with counselling skills practice with your peers included.

You will need to have access to a computer/ laptop to upload your assignments.
