About the Tutor: Stephen Thompson

Stephen Thompson BA Hons Fine Art, is a highly respected artist and teacher, with many years of teaching experience across all education sectors, including Head of Art at the English College in Prague. Stephen continues to exhibit work regularly and maintains an active presence in the Folkestone Art scene.

Your tutor will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will look at the work of contemporary and historical artists and you will keep a sketchbook/notebook. Students will need to understand the potential benefit from the programme of study, read and interpret ideas, communicate responses that are clear, logical and understandable and manage your own time. You will undertake critical reflection and evaluation and be motivated to develop creative skills and enhance/develop personal skills. You will have the opportunity to give and receive feedback with your peers and tutor.

You need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. Please bring any materials and equipment you may need.

Our longer courses help to prepare students to apply for Access to Art and Design foundation courses or relevant Art, Craft and Design Degree courses. Enrol early as places cannot be guaranteed.

For students with previous experience who wish to develop their skills and direction in their painting using a range of mediums and approaches. This course is not suitable for beginners.

For the first session, please bring a sketch book and pencils. The Tutor will let you know what to bring to future lessons. All other resources will be provided by the Tutor for the first session.
