This course will provide a broad introduction to the digital camera. It is aimed at cameras with an advanced range of functions e.g. Digital SLR, and will not be appropriate for owners of simple point and shoot cameras. To maximise individual teaching, numbers will be limited on this course.
By the end of this course you should be able to:
- use your camera more confidently
- understand and use more of its functions
- use some image manipulation tools in software to edit your pictures
- use some techniques to take better pictures
Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Dai Noble
Dai graduated with a BA in Photography over 20 years ago and since then has been involved in most aspects of the profession from developing and printing both black & white and colour pictures in a commercial lab, through selling cameras to running a professional studio and undertaking freelance commissions covering a wide variety of briefs. He has taught small groups on an informal basis and is bringing his wealth of knowledge and experience to Kent Adult Education, now delivering Photography courses over our West Kent sites.
How will I be taught?
Our courses provide an opportunity for students to learn and develop skills and techniques and to acquire an understanding of the subject. Tutors will use a variety of methods including demonstrations, instructions, one to one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques. Our courses are taught by qualified and experienced tutors most of whom are experienced artists.
Your tutor will monitor your progress against the outcomes of the course using an Individual Learning Plan. You will get to add your own goals to this document so that you can see what progress is being made. Your tutor will offer you support and guidance on how you can achieve your goals and improve your skills and technique.
What do I need to bring with me?
Please have with you:-
- A Single Lens Reflex (SLR) digital/manual camera with various lenses and accessories.
- A tripod, film if needed, notebook and pen.
Please don't purchase any books or new equipment until you have consulted with the tutor. You will also need to arrange your own transport to any location shoots if at the weekend.
What can I do next?
During your course, your tutor will offer guidance in your personal progression route.
Courses are designed to progress students to higher levels of the Art. In addition, our courses support application to "Access to Degree Foundation courses" leading to Higher Education opportunities.

What do I need to join the course
A Single Lens Reflex (SLR) camera or Mirrorless Interchangeable Lens Camera (MILC). A tripod, extra lenses and accessories will also be useful, however they are not necessary to join the course and the course will cover expanding your kit. It is not necessary to purchase any books or new equipment until you have consulted with the tutor. You will have to pay the cost of outside processing.
