This course is for those who are interested in starting to paint and draw. You will be introduced to a variety of materials, learn how to use them, and start to develop the building blocks for successful drawing and painting. Observational drawing skills, experimental drawing, both fun and technical exercises and group work are used throughout the course . The course will cover basic drawing lessons, in tone and shade and form using pencil, charcoal, pen and pastel. Also covered will be experimental and fun exercises, designed to stimulate creativity and creative expression. You will learn about colour theory and how to mix paint, and use different types of painting techniques to best effect.
By the end of the course you should be able to:
Draw more accurately from observation;
Mix colours using basic colour theory;
Plan a composition;
Identify the work of relevant artists' work covered in the course.
Please note that this is the in-centre option for a dual delivery course, running simultaneously with the online option, delivered by Angela Wooi.

Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Angela Wooi
Angela Wooi is an artist and illustrator. She graduated from Wimbledon School of Art and UCA with a BA Hons in Fine Art.
An award winning artist, she works in mixed media, using drawing painting and collage and also designs costumes . Her background in theatre design and creative direction gives her a unique edge within her creativity. She is a founder member of the arts cooperative Making Art Work based in Maidstone. Her teaching style is structured but fun, challenging and exciting .
How will I be taught?
Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will look at the work of contemporary and historical artists and you will keep a sketchbook/notebook.
What do I need to bring with me?
If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy. However, all students should bring an A4 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper, preferably with a hard cover and ring bound, and a variety of pencils. You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. If you have any materials/equipment that might be appropriate please have them with you.

What do I need to join the course
This course is for those with little or no experience of drawing and painting.
It is important to note that art courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity for you to participate fully and get the most out of the course
