This is a course leading to a Functional Skills (FS) qualification. Functional Skills courses can be joined
at any time of the year, although classes start in September. Course levels start from Entry Level 1 and
progress to Level 2. Entry level will give you the basics of reading, writing and verbal communication for everyday use.

Further information regarding the course specification can be in obtained from your tutor once you have
been placed into a class.
Please note: this course will require an initial assessment, regular attendance, a high level of
commitment and at least two hours of home study per week as set by the tutor.

About the Tutor: Susan Cochrane

Susan is a qualified English and maths tutor who has worked in Adult Education for many years. With a wealth of experience in delivering to groups of students with diverse and complex needs at all levels. She provides in-depth, practical learning opportunities for all learners, providing information and guidance and facilitating positive changes in her students' lives.

How will I be taught?

The course will be taught in a friendly but focused atmosphere, where your individual needs are
catered for. Your tutor will use a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles
and ensure that you achieve your full potential. Teaching and learning are carried out through formally
taught sessions, discussion, group work, and supported with role play, task sheets and resource books,
practice papers, home study, feedback and evaluation.
