The course is for students who have achieved a good level of English; you may already have a Trinity qualification at Entry 3 or Level 1. You can already understand and produce simple and more complex language in familiar as well as unfamiliar situations
You will develop your skills in speaking and listening, but also in reading and writing, and you will work towards a Trinity Level 1 Speaking and Listening exam. You will develop formal presentation skills and learn how to make various types of formal requests. You will also develop debating skills and practise these skills by discussing important current issues and putting your ideas forward, for example, relating to the pros and cons of different scenarios.

About the Tutor: Helen Dixon

Helen Dixon is a qualified ESOL tutor who has worked in Adult Education for many years. With a wealth of experience in delivering to groups of all levels and nationalities, she provides in-depth learning and self-study for all learners, providing information and guidance on such topics as initial assessment, examinations and extra support.

How will I be taught?

This is an online course and you will learn and develop your skills in a friendly online environment. You will work on a variety of activities as a class and in small groups. Homework will be an essential part of the course.
An Individual Learning Plan of work (ILP) is developed between you and the tutor.

What do I need to have with me?

This is an online course taught on a virtual platform such as Zoom or MS Teams. You will need a quiet space to study, access to good internet connection, and a computer with camera and audio. Please also have a bilingual dictionary (this could be online), notebook, pens, pencils to hand. You may be required to keep a folder of your work. You can discuss this with your tutor.

What do I need to join the course

ESOL courses are available for European Union citizens and those who have lived in the UK for at least three years. Other students are also welcome upon payment of an overseas fee. However, acceptance on a Skills Plus ESOL course does not constitute an immigration sponsorship and no Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) certificate will be issued.

We make every effort to keep our prices as low as possible and therefore regret that we cannot return payments to students who withdraw from a course. When you enrol, please understand that you are agreeing to pay the total price for the whole course, including all outstanding balances should you withdraw.

You will be asked for your preferred exam centre however, exam locations vary and you may need to travel to another part of Kent to sit your exam. The time and day of exams may be different from your course schedule. .
