Unleash creative potential with an exciting visual digital narrative. A creative and fun process where students with no experience in computer film making will gain some skills needed to bring their stories alive. The genre is a 2–5-minute short video which is deeply personal. It is their story. By creating a story and recording the narration and using audio and archival footage from the public domain and their own archive - photos and video - they will then edit this together and output it for screening. Although similar to a documentary, the emphasis is on the personal and is a means to express creativity with its roots in oral history.
Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Jeannette Pope
Jeanne is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, writer and traveller. She has lived and worked in China teaching film production, studied for her BFA in Montreal, Canada and travels frequently to her village in France where she works on village stories, oral history and digital work. She is involved with the Victorian Cemetery in Tunbridge Wells as a videographer and helps at the Rusthall Community Cinema. She is very passionate about do-it-yourself, and handcrafting and encourages this in her classes which include scrapbooking, and digital stories. Everyone of us has a story to tell, to share, to inspire and to learn from; this is the joy of storytelling.
How will I be taught?
Demonstrations, one to one and in small groups.
What do I need to bring with me?
The equipment - please bring with you
• A smartphone or camcorder
• An external clip-in microphone (costs approx. £20) Links will be provided on what and where to buy the microphone
• Pens, a notebook, and the desire to learn a simple online editing tool. We will use CANVA as it is free and user-friendly.
