Tunbridge Wells - Amelia Scott
Do you want to be able to speak French at a basic level when visiting France or French speaking countries?
This Beginners Modular course will help you to speak French at a basic level.
You can start with either Module A or B. Module C reinforces the language covered in the other modules and therefore is not for complete beginners. You can join Module C if you have some basic previous knowledge (around 40h of study).

This is an opportunity to practise speaking French and develop your language and vocabulary with your tutor and other students.

By the end of Module C you will have:

• Developed vocabulary on food/drink, directions and shopping
• Start to express an opinion
• Improve accuracy through oral practice of the topics
* Have a better pronunciation

Basic grammar will be studied. You will learn to use expressions and forms appropriate to the language using verbs at present tense, gender, prepositions and adjectives.

You may be given homework (1 hr max) each week to reinforce classroom learning.

How will I be taught?

The focus will be on speaking and listening. Some reading and writing will also be included. Pronunciation and French culture are an integral part of the course. The course will be conducted mainly in the foreign language. Learners will work through different activities individually, in pairs and in small groups, using a variety of learning methods and resources (role-play and games etc). Homework set will provide an opportunity for self-study.
Initial assessment will be carried out at the beginning of the course to assess individual skill level. Each student' starting point will be recorded on an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) to set targets. This will be revisited regularly during the course to monitor and record your progress. Tutors will give written or verbal feedback.

What do I need to bring with me?

The course book will be discussed at the first session if appropriate. Students will need to bring a pen and paper and an A4 ring binder for handouts, although we advise students not to buy anything until after the first session.

What can I do next?

The appropriate follow-on course after completion of at least two modules is a Beginners Plus course. The tutor will be able to advise or check www.kentadulteducation.co.uk, ,
We also have a comprehensive centre based and online Languages Programme with something new starting every few weeks.
During your course your tutor will offer guidance in relation to your personal progression route. Courses are designed to progress you to further study or into employment. In addition some of our courses support access to Further and Higher Education opportunities. KAE web site has information about these courses and developing your own business. Please speak with your tutor if you have an interest in self-employment or an interest in developing a career. We can also help you access the National Careers service.

What do I need to join the course

This course is for students with no previous knowledge or those with a little basic knowledge or vocabulary who want to consolidate at a Beginners pace. If you are unsure please carry out our self-assessment test available on www.kentadulteducation.co.uk. The assessment provides a score to help you chose the best course for you.
