Module C
Do you want to be able to speak Greek at a basic level when visiting Greece ?
This classroom based Beginners Modular course will help you to speak Greek at a basic level and is designed because we know it is difficult to learn a language on your own. Exchanging words and phrases face to face with your tutor and other students will give you the opportunity to practise speaking Greek and develop your language and vocabulary.
Modules A and B will have a welcome introductory session to cover some essential words and phrases (such as greeting, numbers) then start with the topics listed below.
Module C consolidates what was covered in Module A and B this is not for complete beginners. You can join module C if you have already studied the language at a basic level.
Module A:
- Introductory session
- Give/receive personal information
- Use numbers (prices- time)
- Order/pay for food and drink in a restaurant/cafe
Module B
- Introductory session
- Ask for/use direction and travelling information
- Shop for items around the place you visit/live
Module C
- Introductory session
- Extend vocabulary for the topics above
- Improve accuracy and pronunciation
- Oral practice of the topics in Modules A-B
At the end of the 3 modules, successful students will be able to:
• Introduce themselves
• Order food/drink
• Describe places/give simple directions
• Use key phrases for shopping
• Start to express an opinion
• Listen/respond to simple information from a range of sources (telephone messages, instructions)
• Grasp general meaning of written material (simple e-mails, text messages, notices)
Grammar will be studied. You will learn to use expressions and forms appropriate to the language using present tense, gender, prepositions and adjectives. You will be given homework (1 hr max) each week to reinforce classroom learning.

How will I be taught?

The focus will be on oral communication (speaking and listening) and some reading and writing will also be included. Pronunciation and Hispanic culture are an integral part of the course. The course will be conducted mainly in the foreign appropriate language to your level. Learners will work through different activities individually, in pairs and in small groups, using a variety of learning methods and resources (role-play and games etc). Homework set will provide and opportunity for self study including the use of on-line resources.
Initial assessment will be carried out at the beginning of the course to assess individual skill level. Each student's starting point will be recorded on an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and targets will be set. This will be revisited from time to time during the course to monitor and record progress. Tutors will mark homework and give written or verbal feedback.

What do I need to have with me?

The course book will be discussed at the first session if appropriate. As this is the third module of the course it should continue with the course book used during Module A and B. Students will need to bring a pen and paper and an A4 ring binder for handouts, although we advise students not to buy anything until after the first session.

What can I do next?

If students wish to progress, the next course is Greek Beginners - Further Steps CAN/33597/D/LC starting on 27/02/16. The tutor will be able to advise you.
We also have a comprehensive centre based and online Languages Programme with something new starting every few weeks.
During your course your tutor will offer guidance in relation to your personal progression route. Courses are designed to progress you to further study or into employment. In addition some of our courses support access to Further and Higher Education opportunities. KAE web site has information about these courses and developing your own business. Please speak with your tutor if you have an interest in self-employment or an interest in developing a career. We can also help you access the National Careers service.
