Stumpwork is a three-dimensional form and is also known as raised embroidery There is so much creative freedom in stitch.

In this session we will focus on eight different stumpwork stitches such as turkey rug. You will be given guidance on how these stitches can be translated to fill your design. We will also explore the use of wire to create sculptural pieces.

This course will be taught by Felicity Alice Billing. Felicity is a British couture Hand Embroiderer, with a first-class BA (Hons) Hand Embroidery degree, obtained from the Royal School of Needlework. She transforms traditional stitch into contemporary fashion-art-based garments using current trends and sustainable materials to showcase her specialist Hand Embroidery techniques.

How will I be taught?

Craft courses provide an opportunity for students to learn and develop skills, techniques and understand how to design for a chosen craft to a higher level. Our Tutors use a variety of teaching methods including demonstration, instructions, one-to-one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques.

Our courses are taught by qualified and experienced tutors most of whom are practising craftspeople.

What do I need to bring with me?

Please bring the following items with you to this course:-

- A piece of fabric (approximately 24cm square) - plain or patterned
- A piece of ribbon - 30cm long and approximately 6mm wide - any colour
- Embroidery cotton (e.g. Gutterman) - a small reel of any colour
- Embroidery threads (Anchor or DMC) - available from sewing shops/haberdashers/Hobbycraft - 2 or 3 skeins - any colour/different colours
- A small amount of wool - any scraps will do
- An embroidery needle (if you have one) or a standard sewing needle
- Scrap pieces of fabric, thread, ribbons etc
