Do you want to speak Italian more fluently and build on your conversational skills as well as be able to gain a deeper cultural understanding?
This Intermediate Plus course is for you. You will benefit from exchanging with your supportive tutor and other students as you practise speaking in Italian and enjoying learning the language.
By the end of the course successful students should be able to:
- Communicate on a wider range of topics and be able to extract details accurately from various sources
- Obtain information from complex texts and deal with topics of a familiar/unfamiliar nature
- Making hypothesis using the conditional
- Start expressing attitudes and emotions using the subjunctive
- Start to use colloquial expressions and appropriate style of language in conversations
Grammar gaps will be covered as needed. You will be given small amounts of homework (1 hour suggested) each week to reinforce classroom learning.

How will I be taught?

The focus will be on speaking and listening. Some reading and writing will also be included. Pronunciation and Italian culture are an integral part of the course. The course will be conducted mainly in the foreign language. Learners will work through different activities individually, in pairs and in small groups, using a variety of learning methods and resources (role-play and games etc). Homework set will provide an opportunity for self-study to reinforce learning.
Initial assessment will be carried out at the beginning of the course to assess individual skill level. Each student' starting point will be recorded on an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) to set targets. This will be revisited regularly during the course to monitor and record progress. Tutors will mark homework and give written or verbal feedback

What do I need to have with me?

The course book will be discussed at the first session if appropriate. Students will need to bring a pen and paper and an A4 ring binder for handouts, although we advise students not to buy anything until after the first session.

What can I do next?

There is a short “Intermediate Plus - Summer School” to follow-up and reinforce learning. After this, the next appropriate follow-on course is an Advanced course. The tutor will be able to advise or check www.kentadulteducation.co.uk.
We also have a comprehensive centre based and online Languages Programme with something new starting every few weeks.
During your course your tutor will offer guidance in relation to your personal progression route. Courses are designed to progress you to further study or into employment. In addition some of our courses support access to Further and Higher Education opportunities. KAE web site has information about these courses and developing your own business. Please speak with your tutor if you have an interest in self-employment or an interest in developing a career. We can also help you access the National Careers service.

What do I need to join the course

The course follows on from our Italian Intermediate course and is for anyone who has the knowledge of the tenses and basic structure of the language and needs fluency and conversation practice.
Students need to have attended a Italian Intermediate course or have studied the language for approximately 300 hours or completed Italian GCSE (A/C grades) or O level some time ago. You should be able to speak confidently in predictable everyday situations.
If you are unsure carry out our self-assessment test available on www.kentadulteducation.co.uk. The assessment provides a score to help you chose the best course for you. If still unsure, speak to us or to a Curriculum Leader
