You will make a skirt and trouser block and make a toile from each of these to ensure you achieve the perfect fit. You will then be able to use the pattern block to adapt and create other styles.

By the end of the course you will be able to-
Demonstrate how to take the measurements you need for each block
Show how to draft and fit a trouser crotch
Explain how to place notches on separate pieces to match when constructing

How will I be taught?

Craft courses provide an opportunity for students to learn and develop skills, techniques and understand how to design for a chosen craft to a higher level. Students will also be expected to research and respond to the design aspects of craft. Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstration, instructions, one-to-one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques.
It is important to note that craft courses are practical requiring a degree of manual dexterity and students will need to participate fully to get the most out of the course. Our courses are taught by qualified and experienced tutors most of whom are practising craftspeople. At the start of the course you will work with your tutor to develop an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) to set out what you want to achieve by the end of the course. You will both monitor and assess your progress throughout the course to ensure your learning needs are being met. There are no formal exams or tests to complete on this course.

What do I need to bring with me?

You will need:
-A pen, pencil, rubber and notebook
-Scissors, pins and tape measure
We will supply the pattern paper and calico for the toiles

What can I do next?

You will be able to take further courses such as Craft sewing or Clothesmaking courses. Your tutor will be able to advise you on the appropriate next steps.

What do I need to join the course

Some previous clothesmaking sewing experience is useful to ensure a full understanding. Absolute beginners may find it difficult to understand how the flat pattern will translate into a garment.

It would be useful to have attended the Bodice and Sleeve drafting course.
