This full-body massage introduction course will take place in Canterbury Adult Education Centre.
In this course students will learn a massage routine covering main parts of the body, using aromatherapy massage oils. The course will also cover the health and safety aspects of massage, including contraindications to massage. Each lesson will involve pair work and some undressing of the upper body. Students will have the opportunity to practise massage routines on themselves and others and will be made aware of the benefits of massage for stress and tension relief.
By the end of the course students should:
Be able to perform a basic massage routine safely
Be able to name a number of benefits of massage for mind and body
Be able to identify and explain the main contraindications of massage

How will I be taught?
Some undressing is involved which is handled sensitively protecting students' modesty. Treatment may be given over clothes in which case a cotton T-shirt (up to the neck) is appropriate.
Your tutor will use a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and ensure that you achieve your full potential. The course will be taught in a relaxed and informal atmosphere, where there will be opportunities to practise practical skills and ask questions throughout.
If you have a disability and think it may affect your learning in the classroom, or using any of our other services, please speak to us in confidence as soon as possible. We will discuss opotions with you and do our best to provide the support you would like.
You will be given 1:1 feedback throughout the day.
What do I need to bring with me?
Students will need to bring;
• a small cushion for head
• a large bath towel or a sarong
• a hair band
• Notebook and pen
Short nails help to perform massage movements.
It will be necessary to remove earrings, chains and large rings. Please do not buy anything for the course.
What can I do next?
Students may be interested in joining other short introductory courses available in other complementary therapies or accredited courses in anatomy and physiology, holistic massage, reflexology, aromatherapy and of course Indian Head Massage. What do I need to join the course
There are no pre requisites for this course. Anyone interested in complementary therapies or in learning these massage skills to use on family and friends are welcome. Students and therapists with some experience of other therapies who wish to learn new techniques may also find the course useful.
