This is an online course delivered using Zoom, in real time with live interaction with your tutor and fellow learners. Learn how to get started sketching in ink and applying watercolor washes, discover how finer detail can be picked out in black ink pen to enhance your work, creating different effects in shading and texture. Students with some experience can build and develop their skills to discover their own creative style as they progress.By the end of this course students should be able to-Demonstrate how to create and apply a basic wash-Identify the correct ink to use for different effects-Sketch in pen
Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Victoria Wainwright
Victoria Wainwright is a professional Artist and Illustrator specialising in pen and ink and printmaking but with a varied background in illustration techniques and briefs. She regularly undertakes commission work where illustration is a feature, and has illustrated a number of published books. Victoria's main interest is in drawing people, capturing their movement and character.
How will I be taught?
This course will be delivered online. Students will join the class from home and be able to exchange and interact with other learners as they would in the classroom (speaking and listening).
Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will look at the work of contemporary and historical artists and you will keep a sketchbook/notebook and individual learning plan (ILP) to record goals, ideas, processes and progress. You will undertake critical reflection and evaluation and be motivated to develop creative skills and enhance/develop personal skills.
You and your tutor will monitor and assess your progress throughout the course to ensure your learning needs are being met. There are no formal exams or tests to complete on this course.
What do I need to have with me?
Please ensure whatever pencils, pens and paper you have are to hand ready for the first lesson and the tutor will then advise you of what else you might require. A range of B pencils would be ideal and cartridge paper of at least 160 grams in weight plus watercolour paper, coarse, cold pressed of 300 grams to use with washes. You will need a black fineliner pen (0.5 or 1mm) .
You may wish to use either watercolour or ink for later classes, the tutor can advise you of what to buy individually.

What do I need to join the course
The course is suitable for those new to Watercolour and those who would like to refresh their practice in this medium and develop their skills further.
It is important to note that Art courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity.
You can access the class from your computer equipped with a camera and a microphone, from a laptop (where the camera and microphone should be built-in), a tablet or a smartphone. Before each lesson, the tutor may send you by email essential lesson information/handouts for you to consult in advance, and before the class starts, the tutor will have sent you by email an invitation to join, which will be a simple weblink to click.
