This portraiture - beginners course will introduce you to the process of portraiture through a variety of mediums including pencil, pastel, acrylic and oil paints. Working from a Portrait life model, you will explore how to approach proportions, tone, light, form and colour. Each project is based on a particular technique, subject matter or a style/genre of artwork. This will include looking at historical, modern, contemporary and global artwork. Tuition is on an individual basis with relevant demonstrations to improve your drawing and painting skills.
Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Christopher Bone
Christopher Bone MA Fine Art. Chris established a studio in Folkestone in 1985 and has since developed a reputation as an accomplished painter, exhibiting regular in Kent and London. He teaches the principles and techniques of drawing and painting in all mediums, making reference to the history of art as appropriate.
How will I be taught?
Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You may look at the work of contemporary and historical artists and you will keep a sketchbook/notebook and individual learning plan (ILP) to record goals, ideas, processes and progress. You will undertake critical reflection and evaluation and be motivated to develop creative skills and enhance/develop personal skills., Through one to one tuition, group discussion and self assessment against the Learning Outcomes on your Individualised Learning Plan, ILP.
What do I need to bring with me?
If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy. However, you should bring an A4 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper and a variety of pencils.You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. If you have any materials/equipment that might be appropriate please bring them with you.

What do I need to join the course
Some basic knowledge of drawing techniques or painting is required , Students who have have an interest in creating a likeness in paint., It is important to note that art courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity for you to participate fully and get the most out of the course.
