This is course module C
Do you want to be able to speak Portuguese at the basic level when visiting Portuguese speaking countries? This Beginners Modular course is for you because we know that it is difficult to learn a language on your own.
Exchanging in a classroom face to face with your tutor and other students will give you the opportunity to practice speaking in Portuguese with other learners and develop your language skills further.
We want to give you a flexibility of choice so you can join at the start of each module or complete the three modules A, B and C . Each module will have an introductory session.

Module A:
- Introductory session
- Give and receive personal information
- Use numbers (prices- time)
- Order and pay for food and drink in a restaurant or cafe
-
Module B
- Introductory session
- Ask for use direction and travelling information
- Shop for items around the place you visit/live

Module C
- Introductory session
- Extend vocabulary for the topics above
- Improve accuracy and pronunciation
- Oral practise of the topics in Modules A-B

At the end of the 3 modules, successful students will be able to:
• Introduce yourself
• Order food and drink
• Describe places and give simple directions
• Use key phrases for shopping
• Start to express an opinion
• Listen and respond to simple information from a range of sources (telephone messages, instructions)
• Grasp general meaning of written material (simple e-mails, mobile text messages, letters, notices)

Grammar will be studied. You will learn to use expressions and forms appropriate to the language using the present tense, gender, prepositions, adjectives. You will be given small amounts of homework (1 hour max) each week to reinforce classroom learning.

How will I be taught?

The focus will be on oral communication (speaking and listening) and some reading and writing will also be included. Pronunciation and Portuguese culture are an integral part of the course. The course will be conducted mainly in the foreign appropriate language to your level. Learners will work through different activities individually, in pairs and in small groups, using a variety of learning methods and resources (role-play and games etc). Homework set will provide and opportunity for self study including the use of on-line resources.
Initial assessment will be carried out at the beginning of the course to assess individual skill level. Each student's starting point will be recorded on an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and targets will be set. This will be revisited from time to time during the course to monitor and record progress. Tutors will mark homework and give written or verbal feedback.

What do I need to have with me?

The course book will be discussed at the first session if appropriate. Students will need to bring a pen and paper and an A4 ring binder for handouts, although we advise students not to buy anything until after the first session.

What can I do next?

After completing module A you can continue with Module B and C.
The appropriate follow-on course after completion of at least two modules is a Beginners Plus course. The tutor will be able to advise or check www.kentadulteducation.co.uk
During your course your tutor will offer guidance in relation to your personal progression route. Courses are designed to progress you to further study or into employment. In addition some of our courses support access to Further and Higher Education opportunities. KAE web site has information about these courses and developing your own business. Please speak with your tutor if you have an interest in self-employment or an interest in developing a career. We can also help you access the National Careers service.
