You will discuss colour and fabric selections, and explore a variety of traditional quilt blocks.

Returning learners will work on more complex traditional quilt blocks and refine their personal design aesthetic. You will build confidence and speed in calculating dimensions and producing the standard base blocks learning to achieve crisp corners and consistent results. You will cover walking-foot quilting designs and fully machine-stitched bindings. You can expect to produce a small complete quilt, up to 75 x75cm.

By the end of the course you will be able to -
Demonstrate how to cut geometric shapes with rulers and rotary cutters
Explain how to prepare a quilt stack
Demonstrate how to assemble a simple patchwork design using a sewing machine
Explain the Health and Safety guidelines for the tools you have used

Please see the section below for information on what you will need to bring with you.

How will I be taught?

Craft courses provide an opportunity for students to learn and develop skills, techniques and understand how to design for a chosen craft to a higher level. Students will also be expected to research and respond to the design aspects of craft. Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstration, instructions, one-to-one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques.

Students will be encouraged to look at the work of other craftspeople and artists, both contemporary and historical and keep a sketchbook/ notebook to record goals/ ideas, processes and progress. It is important to note that craft courses are practical, requiring a degree of manual dexterity. Students will need to participate fully to get the most out of the course.

Our courses are taught by qualified and experienced tutors most of whom are practising craftspeople.
