You will learn how to use a sewing machine and make seams, hems, sew on buttons and insert zips as well as other dressmaking techniques whilst working on a project of your own choice using a pattern.
By the end of this course you should be able to:
Know how to thread up and use the sewing machine.
Demonstrate a range of hand and machine sewing skills
Produce a range of sewing samples for future reference of seams, hems, zips, machine applique
Press and finish all the samples you have made.
Work on a personal project based on prior experience.

How will I be taught?
This course will be taught using a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, instruction, one to one guidance, and group discussions. In addition to this you will receive one to one support and feedback during each lesson. Your Individual Learning Plan (ILP) will outline goals and objectives to ensure that you are making progress or achieving learning outcomes.
What do I need to bring with me?
A well equipped sewing kit to include large and small scissors, hand and machine needles, seam ripper, tape measure, pins, threads. Paper scissors, ruler, notebook, pencil and rubber. As the course continues you will need to buy paper patterns, fabric and haberdashery. The tutor will give advice on these at the first session.
Please note that with all our craft courses, specialist equipment can be costly. Please do not buy anything until you are sure the course is running.

What do I need to join the course
This course is suitable for all levels, all are welcome and everyone will be encouraged to achieve their full potential working on a project suitable for their previous experience. You are welcome to bring your own sewing machine or use one at the centre.
For our craft courses, good manual dexterity is needed.
