This is an online course delivered using Zoom, in real time with live interaction with your tutor and fellow learners.
This course will introduce learners to the basics of creating art through soft pastels, developing your skills and confidence. For those with more experience, you will learn new techniques and improve your skills further. Learners will explore a variety of techniques and take inspiration from different artists and other sources to inform your work.
By the end of the course, you should be able to:
•Demonstrate the Pastel skills you have learnt in the creation of your work.
•Demonstrate successful use of relevant tools, equipment and resources
•Identify appropriate methods to collect ideas, research and experimentation
•Successfully review and evaluate your own work
•Research and evaluate the work of others to inform your own work and development
•Be aware of and work to relevant Health and Safety guidelines
There is no set ‘homework’, but you are welcome to practise and do further work at home.
There is no qualification for this course.
Who is the tutor?
About the Tutor: Angelo Pizzigallo
Angelo Pizzigallo is a practising artist who exhibits his work locally and in London galleries. Primarily a painter using water-based media, he uses vibrant colours and textures to create layered pictures, often of nocturnal scenes and figures in interiors. He also sometimes incorporates printed and found materials, calling it 'mixed up media'! A very experienced tutor, he has taught for Kent Adult Education for more than 10 years.
How will I be taught?
Tutors will use a variety of teaching methods including demonstrations, one to one guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will look at the work of contemporary and historical artists and you will keep a sketchbook/notebook and individual learning plan (ILP) to record goals, ideas, processes and progress.
What do I need to have with me?
If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy. However, all students should bring an A4 sketchbook and a variety of pencils. You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. If you have any materials/equipment that might be appropriate please bring them with you to the first session.

What do I need to join the course
Beginners and those with some experience.
You can access the class from your computer equipped with a camera and a microphone, from a laptop (where the camera and microphone should be built-in), a tablet or a smartphone. Before each lesson, the tutor may send you by email essential lesson information/handouts for you to consult in advance, and before the class starts, the tutor will have sent you by email an invitation to join, which will be a simple weblink to click.
