Stained Glass and Framing - Beginners

Learn two new skills all in one course offering a completely unique opportunity to combine the ancient art of Stained Glass making with the skill of building your own wooden frame for your leaded panel. This course is delivered by two specialist tutors.
Working with both the stained-glass tutor and Woodwork tutor across a 11-week term you will be immersed in a very special project with the end result of a wonderful, framed panel which will last for years to come.
The first six weeks of this course will be geared towards the making your stained-glass panel, with the last five weeks concentrating on making a beautiful wooden frame for your piece.
Using traditional wood working hand tools and time served techniques, students will learn the skills required to produce a wooden frame for your stained-glass piece.

By the end of the course you will be able to
- Demonstrate how to transfer a design from paper to glass ready to cut
- Demonstrate how to cut glass using a template and appropriate tools
- Explain how to correctly cut and join lead and demonstrate the technique
-Demonstrate how to solder the panel safely and accurately
- Demonstrate how to cement the panel
- Demonstrate how to use marking up tools to prepare wood for cutting
-Demonstrate the safe use of a tenon saw to cut wood accurately
-Demonstrate the correct methods to create traditional woodworking joints
- Identify the appropriate techniques required to produce a frame that is square, strong and the correct size for your stained-glass panel.
